Sentences on Sunday

Dear Asa,
You took your first lurch forward yesterday.  I won’t call it a crawl because technically all you did was get up on your hands and knees and then stretch out and fall.  But you gained some ground, so we’re calling it a lurch.  I am not ready for you to crawl.  Now I guess I really have to clean the floor.

Dear Lydia,
You know that poem about the little girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead?  Um…yeah, that’s you. Except the curls are in the back.  I don’t have the slightest idea where your temper comes from.  (Ha!)

Dear Carter,
I love that you love school.  One day last week you walked into your class and said, “Hey, folks!  What are we gonna learn today?”.  Love it!  And I love you.

Love  love  love,
Mommy

Wanna See My Boobees?

Ok…well, maybe that title was a little misleading.

Tonight I attended at lingerie shower for one of my childhood friends.  While my mom and I were out shopping for a little some’in’-some’in’, I started giggling because I thought of this juvinille, but ultimately funny idea.

See this?
It’s a tee shirt I made with two lift the flap patches sewn on.IMG_2019

And this?
These are the flaps lifted up to show my “boo-bees”.

Plans

Once upon a time I was one of those always on top of it kind of people.  I had a day planner with times and places meticulously marked in blue ink.  (Black didn’t show up as well, plus it’s boring.  And I was once told that “you should never use black ink unless you’re writing a sympathy card”.  Which is just crap…but I digress.)

I was absurdly early to most events.  I always allowed 20 minutes for a 10 minute drive.  I made sure I had contemplated every possible scenario for every situation that I’d find myself just so I’d be prepared.

And then came baby #1.  And things didn’t change all that much.  The main difference that I saw was that instead of always being early, I was usually on time…which I actually found to be a plus.

When #2 came along, I was often alone with the kids because of Marshall’s work schedule.  And I’d struggle to make it places on time.  I really stressed about being 3 minutes late.  It bothered me that I was late.

Now, with three kids…I’m happy if I make it to my destination with everyone fully clothed.  Start times are more of a suggestion than anything else.  I no longer have a day planner, but I do have my trusty Blackberry calendar.  And although the details on that calendar are just as meticulous as the ones I used to write in my day planner, I find that I view it a lot differently than I did back then. You would think that I’d be more stressed now, but I’m not.  Having more kids has added many, many things to my calendar and my to-do list, but having kids has also taught me there’s more to life than calendars and to-do lists.  Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself!

Unique Skins Giveaway

A few weeks ago we had some of our college friends over for a get-together.   One of our friends has an iPhone, and since he doesn’t have kids and isn’t accident prone like me, he doesn’t need a big bulky case to protect it.  But he didn’t want it to get all scratched up either.  So he found this little gem of a website, and made pretty, unique cover to protect his phone.

On UniqueSkins.com, you can create a custom vinyl skin for your electronic devices.  You choose the type of skin you want(cell phone, ipod, laptop, flip, etc) and then design it in the very user friendly designer application.  They have several backgrounds to choose from or you can upload your own artwork, background or photograph.

I ordered a skin for my Blackberry and one for my mom’s Dell Mini, and I LOVE them both.  I put a picture of my kids on both of them, and for only $6.99(for my BlackBerry Pearl) I can get one for each season and not feel bad about it.  (Although I should note that the website says that they’ll last for about 6-9 months on mobile devices with regular use and years on gaming consoles and laptops!)

See how cute this is??  (The kids, the computer and the UniqueSkin are all cute.  Right??)

So…why am I even telling you all about this?  Well, when I find a product I love, I want to tell everybody else about it.  I want to share some of the awesome with my friends…so I contacted UniqueSkins.com and declared my love for their product and asked if they would be willing to give a little somethin’ to one of my lucky readers.  And they said yes!

There are a few ways that you can enter to win a $25 gift coupon to uniqueskins.com.

  • You can get ONE entry by going to their website and looking around, then come back here and leave a comment saying what kind of skin you would get.
  • You can get ONE entry for tweeting about this giveaway and leaving me a link to that specific tweet’s URL in the comments of this post. (Not sure how to do that?  Click here.)
  • You can get FIVE ENTRIES by going to uniqueskins.com and making a skin for your phone or computer and then displaying your fantastic creation on Flickr!

In order to do that, you’ll need to follow these directions:
Once you’ve made your skin, capture it in a screenshot like this:

Bridget Rocks

Then download your UniqueSkins creation onto the group Flickr stream I created.

A winner will be chosen by 11:59pm EST on Friday, September 18th.  The winner will be chosen by using random.org, and will be contacted via email.  If I have not heard from the winner in 48 hours, a new winner will be chosen.

If you do not leave an email address, your entries will be disqualified and you cannot win!

My little man & me

Asa was born a few days before Christmas.  And as much as I try to remember what he was like in all his new-ness, all I can remember is the chaos of trying (and failing once again) to breastfeed, Christmas trees, ornaments, new toys and lots of visitors.

Then the kids went back to school a few days a week once January came, and I had that time alone with him now.  I snuggled and cuddled and rocked and sang and enjoyed my time with him then.  But by the time the “big” kids got out of school in May, he was just beginning to get out of his “sack of flour” stage.  He could finally laugh and interact.  He was beginning to sit up on his own.  He was beginning to really babble a lot.  His personality showed up about the time they finished school.  And, fair or not, I feel like he kind of got the shaft once summer started.  I definitely met his needs.  I fed him, clothed him, bathed him, changed his diaper.  But there weren’t a lot of times that I sat down and focused on him. The “big” kids are louder and more attention-grabbing.

But now that school’s back in, I’m lovin’ Mommy-Asa time.  Today after his nap, I sang Old MacDonald a hundred times and tickled him with each of his little toy animals…and I listened to his guffaws(really…I’ve never heard a kid laugh like he does).  And I stared at his toothless grin.  And we sang and danced.  And I shared giggles with my not-so-small-anymore baby boy.  And we cuddled.  Because really?  Who doesn’t love a good cuddle.

We lived in the moment and I took it all in.

And I only took one blurry blackberry picture:

Serenity Sunday

You may remember that I hate the beach.  I hate how sand gets everywhere.  I hate feeling sticky.  I hate getting hot.  I hate getting sweaty.

But I have to admit that this trip has been better than normal.  Apparently if you take away heat and an abundance of sunshine, the beach isn’t so bad.  I mean, I still had sand in my crack(which I’m sure we can all agree is not preferable), but it wasn’t horrible.

It also didn’t hurt that we were only out for a few hours each morning.  And the beach isn’t nearly as crowded now that it’s “off season”.

And as great as the clouds and breeze were, it wasn’t optimal picture-taking weather.  Normally I love a little natural shade from clouds.  But the clouds were so dark and heavy that I expected a downpour at any moment…and that just makes everything look dull and gray.

But I did get this one good shot of my crowd working on our sand castle.  And soon I’ll post the rest of my pictures.  We have such cute kids.

The Exorcist

Earlier this week I needed something to keep Lydia entertained and out from under my feet for a few minutes.  So what better babysitter than my laptop, right?  I turn the webcam to “RECORD” and let her see herself “on TV”.

Initially she was reading a book.  In case you can’t understand her, she’s saying, “Boy, you in a heap a trouble.”

I took about 10 minutes of footage and did some really bad editing.  The absolute best part(if you only watch one part, watch this part!) is the last 20 seconds.  I have no clue what she’s doing(she doesn’t know either-I asked), but it’s really possessed-looking funny.

I know it’s not cool to make fun of your own kid…but seriously??  This is hilarious.  At least it was to us!  And is it me or at the beginning doe she sound like Olivia from The Cosby Show or what?
