Mouth-watering Monday: The Un-food Edition

I had the best of intentions for blogging about my favorite greek spaghetti recipe today.  I have pictures ready and everything!  But, alas, that’s not what you’re going to be reading about today.  After the day I’ve had, I must share how this Monday has been the most mouth-wateringly awesome Monday of all!

**I’m aware that this post is kind of dry because it contains so many mundane details…but I couldn’t not blog about the most supa-awesome day I’ve had in quite a while. And if you don’t read anything else, read the part that’s in BOLD. Oh, yeah…and look at the pictures of my adorable kids**

For starters, I went to bed early last night.  Well, earlier.  12:30 is earlier than normal.  So by the time morning rolled around I woke up on time and in time to get everybody up and at ’em without rushing.

Today was Mom’s Day at preschool, so I had a sitter come and keep Asa.  I dropped the kids off at the pool…um, I mean I dropped the kids off at school.  (Yes, that was a ridiculously juvenile doo-doo joke.  That crap’s funny, folks.  Seriously.)  And then I had an hour before I had to be back for the Mom’s Day festivities.  I went to the store sans children and browsed and decided my time(& pocketbook) would be better served if I took this time to respond to the million emails that have accumulated in my inbox.  So I sat in my supa-awesome car and typed away on my supa-awesome Blackberry.  And while I was sitting there, I thought: “It doesn’t get any better than this.” I have to admit that I got a little teary-eyed as I sat there, in a quietness that usually eludes me, and marveled at all the great blessings that have been bestowed upon me.  (Wait…it gets even better!)

I ventured into the school and took a seat with the other moms, having typical mom chatter.  And as the kids filed in to chapel-church, I saw my little double-french-braid-headed princess grin at me and the warm-fuzzies came flooding back. (Oh…did you notice that I even had time to double french braid her hair??  Awesome!)

They sang cute songs like “I wish I had a little pink box to put my mommy in.  I’d take her out and *kiss*kiss*kiss* and put her back again” and the baby bumblebee song.

After that we went down to explore their classrooms together while the teacher’s prepared lunch. While we were in Carter’s classroom, I was talking about boring camera stuff to another mom who is a photographer.  See, in a few weeks, my BFF’s brother is getting married, and they asked me to do the photography for them!  (Insert the following emotions here:  excitement, nervousness, scared ****less, and glee.)  So I’ve been researching external flashes and battery packs and all those fun things.  But the flash that I wanted was really expensive.  And I couldn’t justify spending that much money for a flash that I wouldn’t need often.  So I was asking her about all kinds of options and…she offered to let me borrow hers!  YAY!  (And thank you SO much, Jaime!)

After that we went to eat lunch(have I mentioned before that I love pizza?) and got handpainted gifts from my kids. (BTW, I can never have enough things with little hand or footprints on them.  So sweet!)

And then I was presented the “Mom of the Day award”. Not really, but I could have gotten one for this! Listen to this sweet story: Before Lydia’s class came up to chapel-church, her teachers were asking all the kids what they liked to do with their moms.  Lydia’s teacher asked her, “What’s your favorite thing you do with your mommy?”  And Lydia said, “Say prayers.”  Everybody together now: Awwww! Talk about warm fuzzies…if that doesn’t go straight to your heart, you’ve got a heart of stone.

When we got home, little Asa was ready for an afternoon nap, and so were we!  I swaddled him up and put him in his crib.  Then I crawled into my bed and snuggled between my two favorite “cuddle-buddies”.  All of us…did you catch that?  ALL of us…slept for 2 hours!  And everyone woke up in a great mood.  I was in an even better mood when I went out to check the mail and found a check waiting there for me!!

It keeps getting better, folks!  I went to get stuff out to make dinner…to discover that I’d forgotten there was spaghetti sauce in the fridge that I’d cooked, but not yet eaten!  So…time to play outside!  YAY!

When Marshall got home, we ate.  And then I was able to go to Macon(once again sans children.  Thanks, Marsh!) to get a few things I needed.  (I wanted to print out a gift for my mom the other night, only to realize that the printer is not compatible with my new computer and it is out of ink.)

While I was driving to Macon, I talked with a teacher at a local private school about him going there next year instead of public pre-K. (Just FYI…I have no problem with public schools. He’ll be going to public school once he’s done with preschool, but…well, I’ll just save that for another post on another day.) It’s still a long day(8:30-2:30), but it’s only Monday through Thursday.  And there are a lot of positive things that go with it, and I’m really feeling good about it.

Anyway, I got a new printer, ink and paper.  I got some new camera accessories on the cheap.  There was a previously opened package (read: 50% off) battery for my camera that I scooped up and 10% off the memory card I needed!  Woo!  I figured with all those savings, I could take a moment to browse Target.  I found some great bargains there, too:  The Bourne Ultimatum for ten bucks, Marley & Me for fifteen, the book for our next book club and 2 more books just for fun.

All of that and I still had an episode of HIMYM waiting for me at home.

So now I’ve watched that, munched on some Monster Trail Mix, and answered about half of the emails that need my attention(If I haven’t written you back, I promise I’m not ignoring you. I’ll write back very soon!), I’m enjoying the last few quiet minutes of the perfect day. I just peeked in on all my kiddos. Closed my eyes and listened to the rhythmic sound of their breathing, kissed their sweet little heads, and thanked God for every moment I get to spend with them.

So I’m going to finish up the post by stealing one of Lydia’s favorite prayers:

Dee Gawd, fank you foh food an family and fie-ends and foh Gawd.  I lahf you Jesus.  A-mayn.
(Dear God, thank you for food and family and friends and for God. I love you Jesus. Amen.)
