3 topics for the price of ONE…on this blog for a limited time only!

**I apologize in advance for a horrible post.  I simply cannot focus because I’m glued to the TV.**

As much as I want to, I am not talking about politics.  It’s a topic on which I usually try to keep my mouth shut.  Not because I’m embarrassed by my opinions, but because here in the bible belt I’m often in the minority.  And that’s ok with me.  But it’s not always ok with other people.  I’ve heard people ask how someone could be a Christian and a Democrat…seriously.  I try not to complain about your beliefs, or tell you that you’re wrong.  So please don’t do it to me.  (I’m now stepping off my soap box and on to another non-political subject.)

Today was a BEAUTIFUL day here!  Since I’m supposed to be “taking it easy”(read, as I do: not doing any housework), we decided to meet up with some friends at an awesome new playground with a picnic pavilion.  The kids had fun playing with their friends.  I had fun talking to the other mommies.  But my favorite moment of the whole day was when the other moms headed to the car to get lunches, I got all the kids to “link up” (hold hands) and I held tight to 5 tiny tots all in a line.  I really wish I’d had a camera then!  What a beautiful sight!  Anyway, we all tried to enjoy the picnic.  We would have been more successful if we hadn’t been plagued by a pack?…group?…colony??…a whatever of yellow jackets.  I’d always heard that if you killed one yellow jacket, they would give off some kind of pheromone and attract others.  But none of us were sure if that was a myth or truth.  Do any of you know?  And do you know of anything we can do next time to try and keep them away??

Another thing I’ve been doing to “take it easy” is craft.  Since we left Augusta, I haven’t been able to craft because all my supplies have been packed up.  I finally got some stuff out, and let me tell you…I had forgotten just how relaxing a good craft can be!!  One of the mommies from the park is a Demonstrator/Sales Rep for Uppercase Living.  It’s a cool product that allows you to personalize your space without permanently painting.  It’s kind of like vinyl lettering mixed with those old-fashioned “rub-ons” that you used to see on woodcrafts. (Just go look at the website, I’m not explaining it very well.)  UL offers a variety of pre-made words, phrases, and embellishments and they have an online option to make your own designs!  (That’s my favorite part!)  It only takes a week or two to get the item in once you order.  And it’s SUPER easy to apply.  I ordered 6 different products, and did three of them today! They were so easy to apply, and look so tasteful! AND…whenever I get tired of them, they just peel right off. Those of you who know me well enough know that I’m prone to change my mind frequently. icon smile 3 topics for the price of ONE...on this blog for a limited time only!   I, once again, don’t have my camera easily accessible…so you’ll have to take a look at the pictures I took with my Blackberry.  When I put the other ones up, I’ll try to remember to do step-by-step pictures!

BP update: The doctor’s office called my mom’s house earlier today to give me results from my labwork.  I, however, no longer live at my mom’s house…so I didn’t get the message until after business hours.  I’m assuming that had it been something bad, they would have walked next door to Marshall’s office and let him know.  He had lunch with my doctors, and none of them brought it up…surely that means it was ok, right???  But, just to be sure, I’ll call first thing in the morning and let you all know what I find out then.

The Democratic Process

I was originally going to over-share with you all about my lovely 24 hour urine collection, my doctor’s appointment today(at which my blood pressure was normal!), and the lack of good television on Sundays.

But I decided that I should keep the pee stories to myself(you’re welcome).  I shouldn’t bore you with details of what the doc said(ultimately, eventhough the bp was good today, we won’t really know much until the lab work comes back).  And I shouldn’t really complain about Sunday television programming.  If I’d go to church, it wouldn’t be an issue anyway!  icon smile The Democratic Process

So…what I’ll tell you about instead is an Emmie story.  Today was Red, White & Blue day at school, and the kids got a chance to vote.  Not about something as silly as who will be in charge of the free world(DON”T FORGET TO VOTE TOMORROW….THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT ELECTION!!!), but something really important: snacks.  They voted for which snack they wanted, and the winning snack will be making a victory speech on Wednesday.

Anyway, I was late picking her up from “school”, and she was the only one left in her room.  As I walked up to the door I could see a note that read:

GOLDFISH: 6
DOUGHNUTS: 4
ICE CREAM: 1

So as I came into the room her teacher said, “I don’t think Emmie was very happy with the outcome of the election.”

“Uh-oh.  What’s wrong, Em?”

“I want ice cream, but we havin’ to eat goldfish.”  (If you know Em, you can surely imagine the hilarious face accompanying this statement.)

So…because of 10 crazy little kids(seriously, who picks goldfish over ice cream???), my 2 year old has already lost confidence in the democratic process.  I guess it was bound to happen sometime though, huh? icon smile The Democratic Process

Oh…don’t let the process fail again…VOTE tomorrow if you haven’t already!

Harvest Festival

Let me start by saying that I’m not anti-Halloween.  I don’t think it’s the devil’s holiday, nor do I think it’s anti-Christian to celebrate.  BUT…Halloween has never been a holiday that I’ve particularly enjoyed.  I haven’t hated it, but I haven’t loved it either.  I guess I should get on the bandwagon soon because I do have small children.  Marshall pointed out that starting next year(or maybe the one after that, if I’m lucky), Tucker’s going to want to start going Trick-or-Treating.

Now as a child, I never actually trick-or-treated myself.  We lived in the country, not a neighborhood, and it wasn’t really something feasibleto do.  I never felt gypped or left out though because we always had a Harvest Festival at our church.  There were lots of games, lots of fun, and lots of candy.  Really what else do you need?

As I’ve grown up, so has the Harvest Festival.  There are still a few homemade games, but there are also those big bouncy houses, pony rides, face painting, and live music.  And while I completely understand why my 2 and 3 year olds were enamored with the big bouncy things, I was kind of sad that I missed the opportunity to go on a cake walk or play horse shoes.

Since I was by myself with the kiddos(Marshall was off taking his boards…loser!  Just kidding!), I didn’t have a whole lot of time to take pictures.  But I did have help from a family friend(Thank you, Carol!!), and it allowed me a few shots.  Plus they had a little photo op where you could stop and get your picture taken as a group.  Anyway, here are the pictures I have.  Tucker was a green dragon.  Emmie chose to be a ballerina-princess.  Apparently all princesses are ballerinas and vice verse.

Enjoy!

NaBloPo…what???

So…since I’ve been so slack on posting lately, I decided it was time to do a little something about it.  I have posts that I’ve written and not published.  I have posts swirling in my head.  I have posts that I’ve written in a notebook when I’m not near a computer.  I really love to blog(and read other blogs), so to encourage myself to actually post I’ve joined a little thing called NaBloPoMo Network(which stands for National Blog Posting Month).  Each month a theme is chosen, and bloggers commit to post daily about that topic.  This month, however, there is no topic.  It’s NaBloPoMo‘s 3rd anniversary, and they just want people to write…every day for 30 days.  So I’ve joined the ranks of the thousands of crazy bloggers trying to do just that…blog every day for the entire month of Nov.

But see, the thing is not so long ago I decided I was on the computer too much.  So when we moved, I stratigically put the computer UPstairs.  Meaning that I have to actually make an extra effort to get to the computer.  I’ve contemplated getting a laptop(I lurve Marshall’s), but I keep putting it off because I’m afraid I’ll end up on it all the time, everywhere.  Now seriously, do you really want me to blog whilst sitting on the potty?  I think it’s best for all of us if I keep away from the laptop for right now!  icon smile NaBloPo...what???

BUT…lately I’ve been having a little teeny problem with my blood pressure.  I expected it, really, because I had high blood pressure with my other pregnancies.  But never this early.  I’m now sentenced…um…obligated…er…happily going to visting my friendly neighborhood OB twice a week, and I’m supposed to pee in a bucket for 24 straight hours on Sunday.  Doesn’t that sound like fun??  So…when if I get put on bedrest, I may finally breakdown and beg for a laptop…because there’ll be very little that I’ll actually be able to do anyway, so why not waste time online.  Right?

Ok, so I’m rambling.  That’s a good start.  I apparently have lots to say.  Let’s hope it lasts for 30 days!  icon smile NaBloPo...what???   So wish me luck, pray that I can make it up the stairs for 30 straight days, come visit me everyday, and please(for pete’s sake!) leave me a comment or two!
