Busy, busy, busy…

I will write more later, but I just wanted to let everyone know that we signed on the new house!  All is well and all most of our stuff crap is in the house.  We’re still awaiting a few things from IKEA(should be here today!), and we still have most of our every-day stuff at my mom’s.  Anyway, as you can imagine, it’s quite crazy around here trying to get everything put together and out of boxes…it’ll be much easier once we all have beds!  🙂

The best thing about the new house has been watching Tucker.  He’s so excited!  He went over to a friend’s house for a few hours while I painted his room.  When he came back in and saw his new wall color, new bed, new dresser, etc., he said “This makes me SOoooo happy!”  It was too cute!  He also is in love with the “magic door” (automatic garage door) and the playground in the backyard.   He LOVES to play out there!  It’s just so much fun to watch him be so excited!

Anyway, we’re supposed to close on our old house on Friday, so please pray that all goes smoothly on that front.

I'm in a funk.

I still just don’t feel good in general.  It sucks.  And I don’t want this to turn into a complaints-only blog, so I just haven’t been writing.  Plus, I don’t seem to have much to write about.  Nothing exceptionally good has happened, nor anything exceptionally bad.  We’re just going about our day-to-day lives…

The baby is kicking regularly now, and I feel lots of movement.  I’m convinced now that I was actually feeling movement early on.  I wasn’t sure if it was baby or gas…it’s hard to tell at first!  I figured surely no baby moved that much…it must be gas.  But (s)he does move quite a bit, so I guess it was him/her the whole time!  Not that it doesn’t suck to still be sick and to still have headaches and to still be ache-y all over…but there is some instant gratification that comes with feeling the little sucker move about!

I’m really starting to get excited about the new house.  Living with my parents hasn’t been bad at all.  Quite the opposite, really!  It’s been nice to have extra sets of hands to help out with the kiddos, especially on those days I feel extra crappy.  But it will be nice to have more room.  I’m sick of tripping over trucks and dolls and books and puzzles.  Oh, wait!  I trip over trucks and dolls and books and puzzles no matter where we live.  But at least I’ll be tripping over them in my own space.  And the kids won’t have to share a bed anymore(bedtime’s the only thing that’s been a bit of a pain since we’ve been here)!

Anyway, I stopped by the new housethe other day to take a look around.  It’s been a while since I’d actually seen it, so I needed to figure out sizes and colors and such-that way I can get furniture ready.  I love picking out all the new furniture and paint colors and accessories!  For our bedroom(which up until now has been a hodge-podge of stuff), I found some stuff from IKEA that I like.  It’s nothing fancy.  As a matter of fact it’s fairly plain.  But Marshall and I both like it and it will look great with the quilt I already have and love, so we’re going to make a pilgrimage and pick it all up.  While we’re there we’re also going to look at living room furniture.  I think I like the Ektorp leather furniture, but I want to see it and feel it before I make a decision.  We’re pretty settled on getting leather this time, but I’m pretty picky about how soft it has to be.  None of this stick-to-your-legs-like-in-a-car leather.  Yuck!

The kids are excited about all the new stuff for their bedrooms, too.  We’re going to paint Tucker’s room blue and instead of a chair rail, I’m going to paint a race track out of black chalk paint.  His bedspread is a red car quilt, and it has a cute little steering wheel pillow.  Emmie has a typical little girl room.  I had originally planned on doing red and black ladybug stuff.  But the room is already pink(which she likes much more than I do), so I went with that instead.  I found a daisy quilt at Target which is much cuter in person than in the picture.  It’s got a ton of colors: pink, purple, yellow, green.  She was a little pissy that Tucker got a pillow and she didn’t.  But they didn’t have one…so I went today and found one at Kmart of all places!  It’s a butterfly…to me it has a scary face, but she likes it and it was cheap.  So now we’re all happy!

Just so you can see what I’m thinking(scary, I know), I put together a slide show of the things I’ve either bought or I’m planning to buy.  Let me know what you think.

Yet another post today.

I know this is my 3rd post today, but forgive me…I have a lot to say.  This time I am asking for your advise.  We will be moving in a little over a month to a small town about 2 hours from where we are now.  Our current house has been on the market for about 4 months.  We’ve had some people come to look, but nothing too serious.  We found a house in our new location that we really liked, but we simply can’t afford two mortgages right now.  So…we’ve been stuck in the frustrating and confusing land of the in-between-and-undecided.  A while back, we had an offer from the owners of the “new” house we like: if we would buy the house, they would be glad to rent it from us until we moved.  Although that sounded like a pretty good idea, it still left us in a  place of having to pay 2 mortgages.  Our income will be *very* tight for the next few months, and that just wasn’t going to work.   Marshall will get paid here at the end of June, and our next paycheck won’t come in until mid-to-late August.  That’s a long time to spread a not-so-much amount of money!

So…now we have a new proposal.  Let me see what you in the blogosphere think of this: The owners of the “new” house are willing to rent the house to us, starting July 1st!  We would write up a purchase and sale agreement in which we would negotiate all the normal stuff-a price, closing costs, inspections, etc.-and then we would also submit a lease agreement talking about the length of rent-time, amount of rent, and such.  The lease price would be more than our current mortgage, but the house is bigger and nicer.  And, hopefully, we wouldn’t have to do that for too long.  We have briefly talked to the bank about getting some money to bridge the gap between residency and real, full-time practice, and they seem willing to help us out as best they can.  So, to me, it seems like a win-win situation.  The sellers have a definate buyer; we have a definite home in a good town with a good school district; and we don’t have to move but one time!

Here’s where you come in.  Do you see anything wrong with this idea?  Does it seem to make sense?  Be a good plan?  We want to do what is best, and it seems like this is about the best possibility, but we don’t wan to over-extend ourselves or do something blatantly stupid.  I’m going to attach a few pictures of our current house and the “new” house, so you can get a feel for what we’re talking about here.

Current house: 3br, 2ba on two levels.  It’s in the historic district, which I love.  It has cool textured paint in the kitchen/dining room that I will miss terribly.  And the way the morning sunshine comes through the big windows in there…love it! There are gorgeous camellia bushes/trees in the backyard that make me smile every day when they are in bloom.  The basement/lower level is something I worked very hard on and am pretty proud of the way it turned out.

“New” house: 4br, 3ba on one level with a bonus/playroom above the garage.  It has a big kitchen, which I don’t have now and miss.  It has a pretty big backyard, but no fence(which we’ll need with the dogs…but that’s easily remedied, right??).   It has a nice partially covered deck in the back, with all the things that you would need if you wanted to put a outdoor patio kitchen back there.  There is ample storage space-some in a crawl up attic space, and some in a walk-in attic space.  Oh, yeah!  It also has a garage, which I’ve never had before and always wanted!  🙂

Ok…I have to admit that in these pictures, it pretty much looks like the same house.  I never really noticed that before…oh, well.  Let me know your thoughts anyway!  🙂
