When you look at me, what do you see?
I can’t help but wonder.
This woman I am, I have become-
Confident and outgoing?
Or the girl, the one there hidden in my eyes-
Plagued by doubts and secrets and sins?
It’s hard not to let her smuggle away that confidence,
Smother this person I’ve become.
But today…today I will fight back.
I will push her back into the shadows.
And today I will look at myself
And I will see someone beautiful,
Someone strong,
Someone I’m proud to be.
Because I have a little girl in my house
Who is watching me.
And she is beautiful.
And she is strong.
And she is someone who should be proud of herself.
So for her…
I will call myself beautiful and believe it.
I will proclaim with authority that I am strong.
I will be proud of me.
And one day…
One day…
I hope she will , too.
Great. Now I have to start all over with my make-up.
Bridget you are amazing. And I want to type amazing words to let you know how amazing I think you are. But I’ll just stick with Bridget, you are amazing.

You are beautiful, strong, proud & confident!! That’s the Bridget I see. I just know that’s what she sees, too.
I want to kiss your face through this screen! It is so important for us to teach our daughters to be strong and proud and beautiful…because they are.
Thanks for the life lesson…and the tears…and the pit in my stomach. 😉 xoxoxo
I LOVE this! It wouldn’t have fallen so true on my ears a few years ago, but this time it means so much having a baby girl of my own.
Beautifully written, and gorgeous pictures!
This is wonderful. You are beautiful and strong and your daughter will be too.
Inspiring. Truly.
Much love, my friend.
Yes you are.
LOVE LOVE this, LOVE your pictures, and I LOVE you, and I LOVE Lydia, and I LOVE you for loving Lydia. . . . well, I think you get the point. 🙂 I will say that (though I’m not a parent and therefore know nothing of these things), I not only think you show Lyd an amazing example, but I also think you do a whole lot in terms of example-setting for your sons when you claim your beauty and strength as a woman and are confident of those things. Just think how awesome your daughters in law will be 🙂
Beautiful!
beautiful, strong and proud are only the beginning of what you are!! I could add: spiritual, loving, compassionate, funny, creative, organized, silly, serious, prayerful, thoughtful, thankful, bold, shy, quiet, LOUD, generous, just to name a few………..AND MY LITTLE GIRL! I LOVE YOU! HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
You are beautiful and strong and simply amazing. Your daughter is lucky to have such a wonderful example of what a real woman is all about.
B – you are beautiful! Love this post, love you.
