I hate the beach. (Gasp!)

I blogged yesterday about anticipating a trip to the happiest place on earth.
And my kids are anticipating that, but they’re also anticipating our upcoming trip to the beach with Marshall’s family.
(Me, too!)

BUT…I must admit that I am not looking forward the the beach part.

I hate the beach.
(Ok…go ahead.
Send me comments, emails, replies telling me how crazy I am.
I’ve heard it all before.
And I’m still not changing my mind.
I hate the beach.)

I hate sand.  Hate it.

I hate how sand gets in my crack and my other “girly bits”.

I hate how you bite down into a carefully sealed and covered snack, only to be greeted with grit.

I hate how when the sippy cup is drained of all liquid, there is still a layer of sand in the bottom of the cup.

I hate how the salt water stings my freshly shaven legs.
(Ok, who are we kidding…my legs are rarely freshly shaven. But that’s beside the point!)

I hate getting out of the water and feeling tacky and sticky.

I hate wearing a swimsuit.
(But that’s not exclusive to the beach.  Nor is it the beach’s fault.)
(With the help of your inner middle school self, say that last sentence 10 times fast.  Hee-hee.)

So what do I like about the beach?

I like the view of the sun setting over the water.

I like the sound of the waves, and the birds overhead.

And I like the photo op, of course.  🙂

And the fun never ends…

We went to the mountains this weekend and had a great time!  We made smores, played skee ball and whack-a-mole, jumped in a bouncy house and did a little “rock climbing”.  (2 & 4 year olds aren’t very good at rock climbing, btw.)

AND Marshall’s OFF work ALL WEEK!  We were supposed to go visit Marshall’s sister this week…but then Uncle Sam decided that he needed our money more than we did.  So all of our trip money(plus some) went to the IRS.  😛   Stupid government!  (No, I’m still not a Republican.)  But Marshall had already blocked his schedule and made arrangements to be out at work, so he decided to just have some time at home.  Yay!

AND then next weekend we’re going to see all of Marshall’s family as we celebrate his grandmother’s NINTIETH birthday!

But in all the going and doing, I haven’t had much time to write or blog read(my poor Google Reader is so full) or call or email…I haven’t even had time to read a book, and I always make time to read a book!  I have had time to Twitter.  That’s quick and easy.  And fun!

Before I go crash for the night, I’ll leave you with one little funny from the weekend.  Carter and I were walking out of the grocery store and the automatic door opened for us.  He so very Southern-ly(is that word??) and politely said: “Why thank you, door.”  Too cute!

Going on vacation! Kinda.

It’s one of those doctor-y things.  Marshall’s going to a conference and we’re tagging along.  He’ll be in classes all day long while we check out the sites of the city, the pool and maybe even some room service.  See, I love hotel breakfasts, but I hate getting dressed…so we’ll see how that goes!  🙂

But Em’s actual birthday falls on Saturday, so check back then.  I have a little something that should be up to celebrate, eventhough we won’t be around.  (I’ve never set this thing to publish at a later date, so I hope it works!)
