iTunes is the new youtube

Ok…so it’s no surprise to some of you that I can get lost on the inter net.  I can sit down meaning to do one small, simple thing like send and email or post a little blog…and low and behold, 3 hours later Marshall’s beginning to wonder if I intend to help with bedtime or feed the screaming baby.

For Christmas I got a $25 iTunes gift card.  Nice thought.  Great gift.  I was all excited about the possibilities.  And therein lies the problem.  I sat down and typed in a few names, checked prices, and realized that-just like with youtube-there’s a little box on the side saying “If you liked this song, check out this:”.  You click on that and it leads you to another album…which leads you to another album…which leads you to another album…and, well, you get the point.  I’ve now been online for well over an hour and I’m more confused than ever about which songs to buy!

Somehow I ended up on the soundtrack for the movie Juno.  I found out that one of the songs I like from that CD, “All I Want Is You”, is by Barry Louis Polisar.  It’s a hokey little song that never fails to make me smile.  So I probably shouldn’t have been surprised that when I went to see who he was and what other songs he had, I found out that he’s a children’s song writer.  I just can’t get away from kiddie music apparently!  So from there I went to his website www.barrylou.com. And you can hear several of his songs here.  Although his music is not something I could listen too often, I was initally somewhat amused by songs like “I’ve Got a Dog and the Dog’s Name is Cat”, “Don’t Put Your Finger Up Your Nose” and “I Lost My Pants”(of special interest around here because of our “Pantless Wonder”, Carter).  But then I started to become a bit troubled by some of the other songs like “I Don’t Brush My Teeth”, “My Mother Ran Away Today”, and “The Alfabet Song”(which is not only MISSPELLED, but also talking about hemorrhoids and canker sores!).  A little funny? Maybe.  Suitable for children?  Not mine.  Is that prudish of me?
