Weekly Winners

I randomly shot off a few clicks to test a setting on my camera and got these.
Pretty odd pictures of my foyer, but I really like them.

Years ago there was an annual craft fair near my home.
I’ve enjoyed going out to the old fair grounds and taking pictures.

I realized right before bed on Wednesday that I hadn’t taken a picture for Project 365.
I saw a stack of multi-colored tissue paper on my counter and thought,
“Well, it won’t be great…but at least I’ll have a picture.”
But I actually really like it a lot.

This is what was going on when the bird flew into the house.
Luckily Asa continued to play with bubbles for hours while I tried to get that stupid bird out!

Why?

I take pictures because I want to remember.

I take pictures because I can look at them and instantly recall details I had forgotten.

I take pictures because there is something so breath-takingly, mind-numbingly cool about

(for a moment)

being able to freeze time.

I take pictures because time plays tricks on us all and
moments that I want to remember looking like this:

will somehow end up looking like this in my mind’s eye:

I want to remember it all.
But I know I can’t.

And so I photograph.
That’s why.

My Soul in Bloom {Friday}

We all have the power to make wishes come true,
as long as we keep believing.
~Louisa May Alcott

My Soul in Bloom {Thursday}

Look at us, said the violets blooming at her feet,
all last winter we slept in the seeming death but at the right time God awakened us,
and here we are to comfort you.

~Edward Payson Rod

My Soul in Bloom {Wednesday}

I hope you will go out and let stories happen to you,
and that you will work them,
water them with your blood and tears and your laughter till they bloom,
till you yourself burst into bloom.

-Clarissa Pinkola Estes

My Soul in Bloom {Tuesday}

“When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment.
I want to give that world to someone else.
Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower.
I want them to see it whether they want to or not.”

–  Georgia O’Keeffe

Shaped Bokeh

A few days ago, Casey posted this picture and when I asked how she’d done it,
So within maybe 10 minutes, she wrote back that it was really super easy to do…if you have the Bokeh Masters Kit.

But I was so anxious to find out how to do it, that I didn’t even give her a chance to respond before I googled it
And found this DIY tutorial on how to make your own shaped bokeh filter.

Let me say this:  It was really easy to make.
I already had black paper and a few scrapbook punches that I used to cut out my shapes.

But then I wanted a tree shape and a snowflake shape.
I didn’t have punches for those(and I’m not going to buy a punch just for that)…

So I drew out a tree and a snowflake and I cut them out by hand-
Which was kind of time consuming and I really didn’t like the way my snowflake ended up looking.

Also the one that I made is made of paper.
It’s not going to last very long at all.
So I’m probably going to end up buying the $15 Demo Kit
And making a few of my own discs to see if they’ll fit in there.

I can’t wait to try this out as a backdrop for pictures!
(Although with such a wide open app, I probably shouldn’t count on my children to be still enough for that!)

2010 Holiday Mini Sessions

Well, folks…I think I’m finally gonna do it.
I’m dipping my toes in the photography pond by doing a few holiday mini-sessions.

Often for the price of your session, a set number of printed holiday cards will be included.
But I like the idea of being able to make/print/do my own cards, so instead you’ll be getting a digital copy of your pictures!

So here are the details!
(I’m so excited about this!!!)

I will have 9 mini sessions available on the Friday after Thanksgiving(Nov 26) at Standing Rocks Farm.
Each session will be 20 minutes long and cost $50 for up to 5 people.  (Each additional person will be $5.)

The $50 price will include not only the session time, but also 2 fully edited digital photos for you to print as you please.
If you are interested in purchasing more of the images, they will be $10 per digital image
Or you can purchase a disc containing all or the edited images for $75.

Available times are 8am, 8:30am, 9am, 9:30am, 10am, 4pm, 4:30pm, 5pm, 5:30pm.

Time slots are available on a first come, first serve basis.
The session fee is due at the time of booking.

I know that this is “black Friday” and I know a lot of folks are going to be out of town.
But I also know that this is a day that many people spend with family.
Here’s to hoping all goes well!

(Many thanks to all of the people who have encouraged me to do this!)
