That's NOT an answer!

This conversation is heard very, very often in our household.  It doesn’t matter which parent or which one of our “big” kids you plug in below.

Parent: Why did you (insert wrongdoing of choice here)?

Child: Because I shouldn’t.

Parent: I know you shouldn’t, but why did you (offense of choice)?

Child: Because I won’t do it again.

Parent:  Okay.  That’s great.  But why did you do it this time?

Child:  Because…because…because I can’t.

Parent:  You can’t what?

Child: I can’t do it again.

End scene with frustrated parent and bewildered-looking child.

I share in your frustration. After asking Abi why she did something yesterday,

    Abi: “Because”
    Me: “Because?”
Abi: “No, beCUZ.” (Oh, now I understand.)

    Other popular rebuttles of late:

“BabyDrew* did it”, “I not know”; and my new (yank my hair out) favorite, “I not care!”

She doesn’t even know what that means – really, but it drives me nuts that she says it!

*Yes, “BabyDrew” is word one & could be easily interchanged with any other person or thing (Daddy, Elmo, floor, puzzle, book, table, chair) that may have been in or near the room where the said offense took place.

Me: Why did you do that?
    Punkin: Because I did.

    Argh!

Wyatt use to say, “It was just a big piece of steak.” Meaning it was just a big mistake. For some reason it was easier to pronounce steak than mistake.

I think they try to confuse us with their jumble so we will forget what they did or why they are in trouble. ;p

There you go again – getting all crafty on me. Seriously, you are so talented and creative. With all the X chromosomes in my household, we’ll definitely have to give this one a try. Thanks for sharing.
